Nicky Woo--of mixed black & polynesian heritage-- earned her B.A.,studying psychology at Boston College. Happily, Nicky quickly realized, she was more interested in celebrating the paradox of the human condition, than in dismantling it. Venturing on to art school, Nicky earned a second Bachelor's of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) from the San Francisco Art Institute; ultimately pursuing graduate work at Parson's School of Design, while working with famed photographer, Tom Munro.Woo's abiding fascination with the beauty of the human spirit, deeply influences her approach to image making. Her portraits evoke a quiet sensibility and natural empathy; always seeking the innate splendor of the sitter. Nicky's fashion work is more cinematic in it's explorations. Models are transfigured into characters, steeped in the vastness of space; Both seductive and considered.
In Nicky Woo's short time as an independent, her clients have included Nike, Levi's, DKNY, Details, Time, Marie Claire, Oprah Magazine, Men's Health, Interview, and Surface. She currently diviedes her time between New York and sunny Los Angeles.
